HEPO Advanced Filters are secondary on-board oil filtration systems that get mounted off-line from OEM filters. A small amount of oil is slowly and safely redirected from the main flow, essentially 'polished', and then returned back to the sump. HEPOs have a very durable vessel that gets mounted to the power unit and a filter element that gets replaced at every scheduled service interval.
Will the HEPO Advance Filter harm my engine or void my warranty?
The HEPO Advanced Filtration System will not harm any part of your engine nor will it void warranties. We have OEM Warranty Letters from most engine manufacturers stating the HEPO will not void your warranty. For those engine manufacturers who do not issue such warranty letters, engine owners are protected by the Magnuson-Moss ACT. This Warranty ACT protects the consumer, which in this case is anyone purchasing an engine, by prohibiting engine manufacturers from voiding warranties simply because it has been outfitted with an aftermarket product. With tens-of-millions of hours and perhaps billions of miles of runtime, HEPOs have proven to not harm engines.
Why did EcoPro choose to promote HEPO Advanced Filtration Systems?
There are quite a few oil bypass filters available on the market today. In fact, they date back to the Lubrifiners that were around well over 50 years ago. HEPOs are the easiest, safest and most economical way to keep your engine oil clean so you can extend oil drain intervals and improve engine life. We conducted a ‘Consumer Reports Analysis’ to determine – based on 25 criteria – which secondary filter we feel is the best on the market. Based on our analysis, HEPO scored higher than any other oil bypass filter.
How much cleaner can I expect my oil to be after installing a HEPO?
Based on ISO4406 particle counts, we have proven that HEPO Filters will remove over 95% of all contaminants out of the oil. This allows the oil to be used considerably longer before it loses its lubricating qualities. In fact, in most cases, oil drains can safely and easily be tripled.
Will this filter out my additive packets?
NO. Based on hundreds of thousands of oil samples using HEPO, we’ve proven that the additive packets are not filtered out with the HEPO Filtration System.
How long can one extend their oil drain intervals?
Oil drain intervals should be based on oil sampling. Oil samples provide invaluable information regarding oil life. Under most circumstances, using HEPO as a secondary oil filter to ‘polish’ your oil will allow you to safely extend your oil drains by a factor of three.
What are the benefits of using HEPO as a secondary oil filter?
There are two primary benefits – 1) filtering oil down to 2 microns, the oil will last considerably longer than before. 2) By removing 95%+ of the contaminants from the oil, there will be less wear on the lubricated components such as the bearings, rods, pistons, sleeves, etc. Based on SAE Technical Reports, engine life can be extended by as much as 7 times its original life by keeping the engine oil clean exponentially cleaner.
How much can I expect to save?
The two main savings are hard-costs and soft-costs. The hard-cost savings are tied to oil, filters and labor – costs that can easily be traced and attached to the cost of oil changes. Soft-costs are harder to track and measure. Examples are equipment up-time, opportunity costs, ordering, storage, paperwork, compliance issues and sustainability benefits.
Based on the total cost of your oil drain expenses (including the oil, the primary oil filter, labor, inventory, storage, ordering, and even the occasional spill cleanup), you can expect to cut your costs by 2/3rds. You’ll need to factor back in the cost of the HEPO Elements, but most companies will save considerable amounts. Another component to factor in is engine life.
Will my engine last longer if I install HEPO filters?
By removing 95% of the contaminants in the oil, there will be less wear. Based on SAE Independent Case Studies, engine life will be greatly extended by removing 95% of the contaminants from the oil.
How long does installation take?
Installing HEPO Filters is easy. A typical installation should take 1-2 hours. There are two steps – mounting the vessel and running the hoses.
How long does it take to replace the filter element?
This process should take 5 minutes or less.
How many gallons of engine oil can one HEPO Vessel Filter?
Each vessel can filter up to 15 gallons of engine oil or about 300 gallons of hydraulic fluid.
How often should the Elements be changed?
The HEPO Element needs to be changed every time you used to change your oil. For example, if you’ve doubled your oil drain intervals from 250 hours to 500 hours, the HEPO Element needs to be changed every 250 hours. This is because the contaminants you used to remove from your engine by draining the oil are now trapped inside the HEPO Element –and we need to get them out. Under this scenario, only the HEPO Element is changed every 250 hours. The engine oil and primary filter are changed every 500 hours.
The first time I install a HEPO, are there any special things to consider?
YES – we always recommend that the very first element get changed out after about 100 hours of operation. This is because the first one tends to load up pretty quick as it’s capturing anything that used to remain in your system but not get filtered by the primary oil filter or removed during the oil change.
What is the typical micron rating of a standard oil filter?
Most standard engine oil filters are rated at 25-30 microns nominal. That means that about 50% of the particles 25-30 microns or larger will be captured by the filter.
What is the micron rating of the HEPO Advanced Oil Filter?
HEPO’s micron rating is 2 microns absolute. An absolute rating indicates that a filter will remove 98.7% or more of the contaminants passing through the filter at that microns size.
Is there a sustainability aspect to the HEPO Filtration System?
YES – by extending your oil drains there is less waste oil created every time oil gets changed. A company who triples their oil drains on 100 engines that was changing oil every 2 months will save more than 4,000 gallons of oil thereby creating 4,000 fewer gallons of waste oil. Under this scenario (which is a real customer) they were changing their oil 6 times a year on 100 trucks and aggregate equipment (600 oil drains/year). After HEPO was installed, they extended their oil drains to every 6 months dropping their annual oil drains down to 200/year.
